It is important for prospective graduate business students to have a realistic understanding of the GMAT expectations at selective business schools. More than two-thirds of all test-takers receive total GMAT scores between 440 and 640, but students in this score range have very poor chances of acceptance to the most elite business schools. The Stanford Graduate School of Business, for example, is one of the most selective programs in the world, with an acceptance rate of just 5%. Though the overall GMAT score range of accepted Stanford MBA students is 590-790, the average score is 737. At Harvard Business School, the acceptance rate is 11%, and the median GMAT score is 730, with a middle-80% score range of 690-760. Meet a Tokyo GMAT Tutor: Lillian B.
Lillian B., a graduate of the University of California-Davis and UCLA's Anderson School of Management, has been teaching GMAT prep for the past seven years. Her application to one of the best business schools in the United States was helped by a GMAT total score in the top 1% of all test-takers. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, she has been living in Tokyo since 2015.
In addition to her teaching, Lillian has also had a successful career in business. She currently works for a Tokyo-based insurance company, and she was previously employed by a major manufacturer in Los Angeles. "My business career helps me serve as a role model for my students, and it gives me credibility that I would not otherwise have," she says. Lillian is a married mother of a three-year-old son.
